Somerset Opera presents
Friday 20th March at 7:30pm
(Doors open at 6:45)
Following last year’s sell-out performance of THE MIKADO we are delighted to welcome back Somerset Opera with their latest production of a Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera.  ‘Iolanthe’ is one of the Savoy Operas, first performed in 1882 but still somehow remarkably topical. The opera satirises many aspects of British government, law and society. The confrontation between the fairies and the peers is a version of one of Gilbert's favourite themes: a tranquil civilisation of women is disrupted by a male-dominated world through the discovery of mortal love.
